What's Currently in The Cog?

Although cycling in many forms such as X-Country, Down Hill, Road Riding and of course youth focused riding has had a very strong presence for many years in Powell River, P.R.C.A. was officially created in 2009 to ensure strong representation for Powell River and area.

Of particular focus, PRCA was created as a means to represent the interests, needs, and wants of everyone riding bikes in and around Powell River area such as developing an all-access bike park, improved cycling infrastructure such as bike lanes, ways and paths in and around the major routes of town and creating more access to cycling for the youth of Powell River.

We have four separate blogs with news from Mountain Bikers, the Wild Women Cycling Club, the Road Kings and Young Riders. Of special note is that in the 2015, the Youth Cycling Club represented by the Brooks High School Bike Club will be hosting the Provincial X-Country Final right here in Powell River!

We have strong representation of men and women who are dedicated road cyclists; they continue to impress with their power and stamina competing each year at events around the province!

As well we have a growing number of youth and older-adults riding more on our ever-improving trails in the X-country and DH disciplines as well as simply cycling for exercise, commuting or just getting outside.

PRCA is very proud of our ever-present Wild Women Cycling Club that is focused on bringing more and more of the X-chromosome into the biking world!

YOU CAN ALSO FIND US VIA "THE TWITTER" OR "THE FACEBOOK" (BUT REALLY YOU SHOULD THINK ABOUT DISCONNECTING AND JUST RIDING YOUR BIKE MORE!)

2013 MEMBERSHIP/TOONIE PRIZE:

AND THE WINNER of $500.00 IS............

David Parkinson, a life-long bicycle rider, is the winner of the PRCA 2013 Season Finale Grand Prize Draw!

How did he win? He became a member of the PRCA. It was just that easy!

With a membership this year, each rider's name was entered into the Grand Prize Draw. Additional entries were gained for each time a member attended one of the PRCA's four, Toonie Rides. The Grand Prize was a collaboration between the PRCA and

local bike shop Suncoast Cycles. The PRCA put up $250 and Suncoast Cycles owners Frank & Wendy Chrinko matched the funds.

David isn't certain what he'll be using the Suncoast Cycles Gift Certificate for, but some of the options he mentioned were a new bicycle trailer or maybe even a new bike! Either way, as someone who has never owned a car, he said he will use his purchase on some of the new cycling infrastructure which the City of Powell River and the Powell River Regional District are starting!

Congratulations David!
